Adaptive re-use of a former and notable White Hart Hotel Bar & Blue Room. To create edgy boutique hotel suites, structurally upgrade the building, co-ordinate retail fit-outs, and carry out fire design.
West End Precinct, New Plymouth
Th eproject consisted of inserting a dynamic set of hotel suites within an existing concrete structure. Taking a lead from the existing conditions, the design takes an industrial tone with the fit out, exposing services, materials, and steel (blue steel). The suites are a mix of studio and single rooms.
Acoustic design – the adjacent lively courtyard creates a real buzz for the environment which makes the suites feel integrated into the precinct. However, it was imperative that the suites could block this noise. This design problem brought about a design feature which added to the edge of the suites. Heavy black sliding acoustic screens were incorporated which blocks any noise but also light.
